Innisfallen Island is home to an ancient monastic settlement dating back to the late 6th / early 7th century. A trip to the island allows guests wander around the monastic ruins, while embracing the peace and tranquillity of island setting. Innisfallen is recognised as an ancient seat of learning, with its most famous scholar being Brian Boru. It is also where the Irish Manuscript ‘The Annals of Innisfallen’ was written.  Today, visitors will enjoy a guided boat tour along Ross Bay and out onto Lough Leane. On landing, guests will be afforded time to explore the extensive 12th century Augustinian priory, a small 11th -12th century Romanesque church, the beautiful nature trail and the flora and fauna of the island.

Guests can request longer periods on the island and this will be facilitated where possible. The island is a great option for couples who want to wander around the ruins or families with young kids who can run freely in the open green areas. The presence of Red and Sika deer in amongst the ruins is often a welcome bonus. All tours are guided by experienced skippers. Boats are Department of Marine Certified, National Parks and Wildlife Service Licenced and fully insured.

  1. Stop At: Innisfallen Island, Killarney Ireland, to visit the historic monastic settlement on a scenic 21 acre island in the centre of Killarney’s largest lake – Lough Leane. Walk among the ancient ruins dating back to the late 6th / early 7th century, along with a beautiful 25 minute walk around the islands perimeter.
